Knit to save the bees!

Posted by Deadly Knitshade on September 15, 2009

S&B London love bees. We really do. So we thought we’d pass this one on:

Seasalt is a friendly little Cornish clothing company. As you may know, last year we ran a project called Go Knit! that raised nearly £3000 for charity. The campaign involved members of the public donating hand-knitted scarves for us to display in our shop windows which were then sold with all proceeds going to a chosen charity (last year we donated to The Cinnamon Trust).

The campaign is back for its second year, this time to support The Bumblebee Conservation Trust, a lovely charity that is responding to the plight of the declining population of our bees and we wondered if you could help?

If you could donate a scarf we would really appreciate it. Alternatively, if you could pass on our message to anyone you know who might like to help that would be brilliant too!

Each of the scarves will have a large ‘hand-knitted by…’ tag which is clearly visible to everyone passing the window. The knitter’s name (and optional website information) can be written on the tag, giving the knitter recognition here in Cornwall – and of course helping us to help the bees! The link to our website is www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk

If you would like to support our campaign please send any scarf donations to:

Kathryn Wild
Seasalt
1 Church Street

The scarves will be displayed throughout October, sorry, we know it’s short notice! It would be great to have any scarves by the 1st October, or soon after as we will continually re-stock the charity window as scarves arrive.

If you would like any more information please email us.

Many thanks,

Leigh, Chloe …and the bees!

    Hi Patience!

Thanks for your response! Here at Seasalt we are really excited about this project too. Last year our charity window looked lovely and colourful with a fantastic variety of kindly donated scarves so we hope it will look just as good this year.

We are really pleased you like the idea and want to get involved – we want to help as many bees as possible!

    Many thanks,
    Leigh (Seasalt)

    Hi Seasalt,

What a lovely idea! I found this site through Patience’s semi-constant twittering about it, so I’m going to jump aboard.

Will it be possible to see a photo of the scarves n display/for sale when you have them in-store? I’d love to add this project and the fund-raising you are doing to my blog.

      Hi Mimi!

Yes, once the scarves are in the window we will post regular updates on our website http://www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk which will include photos! We actually have an update blog going up later today (it’ll be on our homepage).
If you would like to see images from our first Go Knit! campaign last year here is the link: http://www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/acatalog/go_knit.php

If you would like any additional pictures during or after the campaign just send us an email and we will be more than happy to help!

      Thanks for your support!

      Hi Mimi

Sorry, I did reply to your message before but it doesn’t seem to be there now! (New to Twitter!!)
Yes, we will be taking lots of photos of the project once the displays are up (launch date is the 1st October) and you will find them on our website. -Perhaps it was me including the web links that meant my earlier reply was cancelled, so if you google seasalt cornwall it will be the first site to be listed. You can also google last year’s Go Knit! campaign if you would like to see photos of our first Go Knit. Last year we supported a charity called the Cinnamon Trust so it might be easier to find it if you add that to the google box too!

Hope this answers your question and you enjoy joining the ‘buzz’!

      Leigh, Seasalt

p.s we will be adding blogs to our website to keep people updated on the project – our second one will hopefully be up sometime this afternoon!

Thanks very much for passing this information onto me, Leigh. I’m making my scarf now and I’ll be sending it off to seasalt in the week :o) I hop that the London Stitch n’ Bitch’ers have their needles flying to support the cause :oD
