Come to the Stitch London Christmas Shindig 2011

Posted by Deadly Knitshade on November 28, 2011

This year’s Stitch London Christmas Shindig is sponsored by the good folks at Knit Magazine

Jingle! Jingle! Jingle!

Hark! What’s the noise? Why it’s the knitted reindeer pulling the Stitch London Christmas Shindig Sleigh filled with fantabulous crafty gifts for all! Woo hoo!

Every year Stitch London throws one hell of a woolly party for Christmas, and two things make it extra special:

Cracking Christmas Raffle and Stitching Secret Santa

The Cracking Christmas Raffle means we ask craft sellers to donate their most fabulous things to help raise money for a cause close to Stitch London’s handmade heart.

What can I win? We’ll be listing prizes on Twitter, Facebook and our Website. So keep checking as the list grows every day.

Where can I get tickets from? Tickets are only available on the night at the Stitch London Christmas Shindig. All you need to do is arrive at the party and buy your tickets.

How much are tickets? Tickets will be £1 each and all money raised from the Cracking Christmas Raffle will go to Yes to Life and the Andrea Giles Cancer Charity Appeal.

What’s this Secret Santa business about? Stitching Secret Santa is all about giving and more importantly about getting a bit of someone else handsome handmade handwork. Read all about it over at the Stitching Secret Santa post.

This year we’re raising money to support brand-new knitter Andrea Giles in her battle against breast cancer. Andrea’s fight is more than just a one-woman battle. She began using alternative and complementary therapy when the usual medical route fell short. Andrea is a brave pioneer for the Yes to Life Campaign, setting out to prove that there is hope even when the medical profession aren’t so sure.

Help Andrea kick cancer where it hurts

Andrea’s story is so inspiring we couldn’t fit it all in here, so you can read all about it in a special interview over at the Stitch London blog. It’s an amazing cause and Andrea is an amazing woman. Your raffle money could change the course of cancer treatment and give hope to so many. Please give what you can. And do read Angela’s interview. It really is very inspiring stuff.

Can’t make the party? If you miss it there’s the Global Stitching Secret Santa Swap on Ravelry too!

Want to donate something? For every item donated you’ll get a tweet to our 6000 followers and a link on our Facebook. Email info@stitchLDN.com to let us know you’d like to give a prize. Small sellers and large ones are all welcome.

Stitch London the book is here!

Posted by Deadly Knitshade on October 17, 2011

STOMP! RUSTLE! STOMP! RUSTLE! What on earth is that noise? AAAIIIIIIIEEEEEE!!! The woolly Godzilla that is Stitch London has been transformed… into a book! And best of all each book contains a kit to knit the world’s most beautiful ladylike pigeon inside. Woo hoo!

Finally London has its very own knitting book! Stitch London, written by Chief Woolly Godzilla Wranger Lauren O’Farrell and published by the good folks at David & Charles, is a collection of 20+ of Lauren’s kookiest London-themed patterns in one shiny book. It’s her first ever pattern book and it tangles together her two great loves kooky knitting and the lovely pigeon-filled city of London.

Stitch London? Why would I want to knit London?
You can whip up your own HRH to add a bit of majesty to your mantelpiece. You could woolly up your unexciting umbrella with handful of Umbrella Fellas. You can build a knitty city with some little London landmarks, and stop your tea getting tepid with a cockney-rhyming slang Mug Hugger. Whether you’re just visiting or striving to survive as a city knitter, Stitch London is the place for you.

Not a knitter or a bit scared of new knitting challenges?
Fear not! We’ll even show you how to get clicking with your sticks and string. We’re nice like that.

Instant Pigeon Stitching
“Cooo coooo…” Oh yes, and it’s not just full of little knits. The book also contains everything you need to knit the pattern for the quite frankly gorgeous Cooey the Pigeon. Wheeeeeeeee!

Beating the stuffing out of cancer
And lastly a MWA HA HA HAAA in the face of Cancer. At the same time as the book is published Lauren is celebrating 5 years in remission from cancer. With this in mind all sales of this book support Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research to help other people beat the pants off cancer too.

Any more cool stuff?

You get two bonus patterns if you register at www.knitthepigeon.com. You can also follow @cooeythepigeon on Twitter and like her on Facebook for updates and exclusive Stitch London book stuff. Coo-coo-cool.

KNIT THE PIGEON: THE MOVIE

For those of you who might fear that pigeon knitting is a little too challenging for their needles we’ve made a little movie to show you how easy it is. Knit the Pigeon: the Movie contains scenes of daring rooftop knitting, the innards of the Fleece Station where this little pigeon was first hatched and a rather catchy tune.

You can attend the world premiere by watching it on Youtube here:

WIN Crafty Curious Cats for Christmas

Posted by Deadly Knitshade on December 3, 2010

Knitting and cats have a love/hate relationship. Cats stalk yarn ends, sleep in your stash and feel the need to chew through your yarn while you’re knitting because it tastes a little like sheep.

On the other hand they’re often content to purr it up quietly while you purl, and both of you appreciate a good ball of yarn (even if one of you is likely to want to chase it about the floor like it’s alive).

So for Christmas we’re proud to offer you some of the nicest cats in the world of kids’ books from the talented writer/illustrator/crafter Viviane Schwarz.

There Are No Cats in This Book is Viviane’s latest cat-filled picture book from Walker Books. It follows hot on the paws of There Are Cats in This Book (so good it was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Prize), and tells the tale of three fine felines and their adventures across the pages. Moonpie, André and Tiny love wool almost as much as you. They also love cardboard boxes, pillow fights and making new friends furry or otherwise.

Both books feature a little bit of knitting and we thought they’d be perfect for you to encourage any sticky-fingered urchins you meet this Christmas to settle down with some kooky cats and leave you to your knitting.

The book-loving folks at Walker Books have offered us five sets of There Are Cats in This Book and There Are No Cats in This Book to give away to you, you lucky cat lovers.

All you need to do to give yourself a chance to win is answer is join the mailing list (if you’re already a member you don’t need to join again), and answer this Christmas-themed stitching question:

The stitch pattern of knit one row, purl one row is known by which name?

a. Stinking stitch
b. So-easy-I-can-watch-a-subtitled-film-while-I-knit stitch
c. Stocking stitch

Drop us an email at winstuff@stitchLDN.com with:

  • The subject line “If I win I will purr very loudly”
  • Answer A, B or C
  • Your full name, contact email and address (Anyone can enter. Even if you live outside the UK)
  • NEW MEMBERS: The secret password in green at the bottom right of your welcome email

The deadline for the competition is Friday 10 December at 8pm.
Please note: Offering to dress your cat up like a person and attempt to get it on the Royal Wedding guest list by calling it an ‘aristocat’ may amuse us but it won’t help you win. Just answer the question (correctly) and cross your fingers. Good luck!

Competition rules: 1. One entry per person. 2. Competition ends 10 December 2010 at 8pm. 3. No cash alternatives. 4. Winners will be drawn from all correct answers, and notified via email. 5. If winners don’t reply within two weeks of being notified then new winners will be chosen. 6. Prizes will be posted to the winners by publishers. 7. You must be on the Stitch London mailing list to enter.
